Adult Christian Education

At Westminster Presbyterian Church we believe Christian education doesn't end with high school. As we journey through life, we often find ourselves seeking answers to questions we didn't even have when we were young. That's where a strong adult education program can make a difference. We have different classes based on the church calendar. You can learn more about this year's topics below.

January 8 – 22

Introduction to Biblical Archeology

This three week class will be taught by Professor Phil Drey, professor of religion at Mount Mercy University.  Phil has a PhD in Biblical archeology and languages and participated in an archeological dig in Jordan as part of his graduate study.  He will teach us about the basics of Biblical archeology and how that knowledge gives new understanding to Biblical passages.

Theology for the Church

Rev. Gary Conners-Boe is back to teach a 5 week class on important Christian doctrines.  Gary always has interesting and often surprising insights into familiar passages and doctrines.

March 12 – 19

Theology 101

Don Damsteegt and Pastor Randi will present a primer of basic Christian beliefs.  Topics include the structure of the Bible, famous people in the Bible, the origin of major practices of our faith, and some puzzling doctrines (trinity, atonement).  Pastor Randi will present information on theories of atonement on March 19.

The rise of the papacy from 1077 to the Reformation

Mike Bryant, historian, is back to present

a 4 week class on the papacy in the middle ages.  

Mike has presented several programs at Westminster

on different periods of history.

May 7 – 14 Mission

Local and international

On May 7, we will learn about a local mission, the Ronald McDonald room at St. Luke’s hospital.  On May 14, Dr. John Roof will lead the class, telling us about his ongoing work with Haiti, which was devastated once again in fall 2016, this time by a hurricane.
