No matter how
significant you are,
it’s only because of
what you are a part of.
All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is wonderful: wise counsel (wisdom), clear understanding (knowledge), simple trust (faith), healing the sick, miraculous acts, proclamation (prophesy), distinguishing between spirits (discernment), tongues, interpretation of tongues. [1 Cor. 12:7-10]
We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; the exhorter, in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness. [Rom. 12:6-8]
Most of us are pretty comfortable thinking about our skills and talents, but spiritual gifts are not something you can just choose to pick up in a training class. They are gifts from God. If you are interested, the ELCA has a wonderful on-line assessment tool that will help you start exploring your spiritual gifts:
If you'd like to talk about what your spiritual gifts mean for doing ministry here at Westminster, drop by sometime or give a call. Blessings in your discovery!
